EDITING, LEADERSHIP & TEAMBUILDING
After dealing with the difficulties I faced as a web staffer, I sought to bring improvements for the web as website editor and later, managing editor. Communication and organization are what I value most in leading my staffers so that we can have a quality website. I also actively advocate and support my staff so that they may grow successfully as journalists.

Presentations
Through past experiences, I realized how vital it was to set a standard from the get-go on how certain procedures and tasks would go. I gave presentations for the whole staff and my own staff on certain things that would make running the website smoother as well as make my staffers' jobs easier so we do not have to face many issues.
A Guide to SNO is an ongoing project I've been working on that has all sorts of how-to's and tutorials that walk through working with SNO and its features.
These are generally the main areas I want to cover and have as resources for my staff and future staffers.

Communication
Going nearly a year having to see most of the staffers on a computer screen in laggy and freezing Google Meet calls, I came to realize how important communication was. As an editor, I always made sure communication was clear within the web staff and between the web staff and the rest of The Muse.

The Slack Challenge
Teambuilding is essential to a productive and motivating learning environment. Although we would encourage others to use our Slack to connect with one another, I realized we needed to incentivize using it. I created The Slack Challenge to encourage checking the Slack and getting to know one another outside of our roles. A challenge is posted every week prompting people to leave messages in certain channels such as recommendations in #tv-den or positive messages in #muse-affirmations.
Section Task Tracking
Non-coverage staffers often don't have the same deadlines or tasks as those that write or take photos. Instead, they'll have tasks more specific to their sections such as PR planning events or Web creating and uploading certain website pages. Because of this, it's important as a managing editor that I can track and manage these deadlines so staffers can be held accountable and we can effectively meet bigger goals. I work with editors through section-specific task spreadsheets and workflows on Trello. I'll check and regularly update them with editors, so it is in a clear place and easy to reference.
